Ed Shearin

Member at Large

Ethics Committee Chair

Ed Shearin has engaged in mindfulness approaches for many decades, beginning when he realized the challenges of both becoming a psychologist and spending all his time mountaineering in the Sierra Nevada, the latter of which still seems like the ideal mindfulness setting for him. Ed has been attending Zen and Empty Cloud Sangha retreats since 2008, becoming first a student of Roshi Marsha Linehan and then Roshi Randy Wolbert. Currently, he is chair of the Sangha Ethics Committee. DBT has also been a constant since he was an early graduate student of Marsha Linehan. After initially doing DBT as a faculty member in medical school settings, he has taught in professional psychology schools for several decades and is currently a professor at the Washington DC campus of The Chicago School. He still makes occasional visits to the Sierra Nevada, though family and an orange cat named Mariko get the most time.

The Many Beings Are Numberless, I Vow to Save Them.

Greed, Hatred, and Ignorance Rise Endlessly, I Vow to Abandon Them.

Dharma Gates are Countless, I Vow to Wake to Them.

The Pathless Path is unsurpassed, I Vow to Embody it Fully.
